While I haven't yet installed the fan, I did unbox it and plug it in. I'm no acoustic engineer, but I could barely hear it operate and that was at the motor end. I'm not sure what 45 dB sounds like or maybe I'm hard of hearing - my wife tells me I'm hard of listening but this thing is quiet and that's with it strung out on the hardwood floor. I have owned this same 400k btu unit for 8 years and it is the best purchase that I have ever made. It is used in a commercial setting and has never had a problem or service call. Reznor quality is second to none and definitely worth the extra cost.
